Brief Look at Our Classes and Activities

Obedience trials/Rally trials/Practice matches The GVDOTC organizes and holds trials and matches that are sanctioned by the CKC. Titles and awards are open to both purebred and mixed-breed dogs. Full descriptions of the events and how to qualify can be found at ckc.ca.

Obedience and Rally classes The GVDOTC has proudly provided lessons to Greater Victoria for over 60 years. Our volunteer, dog-experienced instructors find value in sharing their knowledge and skill with people looking to improve their own understanding and relationship with their canine companion. We run classes in Practice 1, Practice 2, Trials Practice, Utility and Open, as well as Rally Novice and Rally Advanced.

Canine Good Neighbour classes  A preparation class for the CKC 12-step Canine Good Citizen test. Open to purebred and mixed-breed dogs.

Advanced work, competition prep, and tracking In addition to the various levels of Obedience and Rally Classes, we also sponsor occasional field tracking tests and annual urban tracking tests, usually held at UVIC.

Other activities The GVDOTC on occasion provides dog obedience demonstrations. This outreach is a wonderful way to reach an audience that may not otherwise have any dog exposure and can help educate on some basic interactions that may occur in public areas. Members of the club also participate in pet therapy, visiting nursing homes and other facilities to brighten the lives of seniors and other people who want an opportunity to interact with dogs.
